In 2012 the grandsons explore their family tradition and armed with Bobby’s Pinang Raci recipe for infusing jenever with a mishmash of spices, they started their search for the perfect distilling partner, to craft their gin. It did not take long before they found the Herman Jansen Distillery, a 7th generation family distillery, located in Schiedam, the Netherlands: the birthplace of gin’s ancestor jenever, and the cradle of Dutch distilling.
Behind the stone walls and cobbled streets of this picturesque town, the Herman Jansen Distillery has been producing spirits since 1777, and 7 generations of the family have dedicated their lives to creating quality spirits with the utmost dedication and honesty.
Grandson Sebastiaan mesmerizes the start of the process: “It took two challenging years of tasting and refining before we came to the perfect and modern gin-expression of grandfather Bobby’s recipe. We surely challenged Master Distiller Ad van der Lee to go beyond his limits, with an amazing result. We have created something iconic, worthy of our family’s traditions. We take great pride in Bobby’s Gin – and all products that we have created in the spirit range, ever since.”

MEET GRANDSON SEBASTIAAN
Born June 30th, 1984. Rotterdam.
All that matters most. My family, my friends, Bobby’s, and music.
Before I started with Bobby’s Gin I was working for Duvel. I was offered a chance to build Vedett in the Netherlands and I loved it. I learned so much and it eventually led me to the whole Bobby’s journey.
I’ve studied Communications & Leisure Management (and a few others..) but I never graduated. The school of life seemed a better fit.
David is my older brother and since we were little we have always looked after each other. It’s always been ‘me and my shadow’. If you get me, you get him and vice versa : ). Our bond grew stronger when our parents separated, a long time ago. We did and still do everything together. From living together in Rotterdam to having our own rock 'n roll band and being DJ's every once in a while.
When I started Bobby’s Gin and went live with it on February 12th, 2014 David said to me: "If you need me in the business I’ll be there." "What’s mine is yours", I answered. After 6 months I called my brother and asked if he was up for a new joint venture ; )

MEET GRANDSON DAVID
Born November 24th, 1979. Always have lived in- or close to the best city in the world: Rotterdam. Born & raised and never leaving.
If I'm not working you can probably find me holding my girlfriend/ fishing rod/ guitar/ tennis racket or playing some music as a DJ with my brother Sebastiaan. Besides all this I also love hanging out with friends and family.
Having worked all kinds of jobs from selling shoes, being a Microsoft reseller, to standing behind a bar. All of this has led me to the family path of Bobby’s. Telling our family story is the most natural ‘job’ so far and often doesn’t feel like a job at all.
Being a dreamer I never found what I was looking for in school. I was too stubborn for books and always looking for my own answers. I tried some social studies, a little international business, all this to fulfil society’s expectations. Nevertheless, the world outside was always calling so following my heart was the best way to go.
Sebastiaan is my younger brother and we have always been a team, besides the fact that we’re brothers of course. Our similarities and differences define our brotherhood. The connection even got stronger when our parents separated, a long time ago. Ever since we’ve teamed up in a lot of things: living together in Rotterdam, friendships, having our own rock ‘n roll band and being DJ’s every once in a while.
When he started Bobby’s and went live with it on February 12th, 2014 we already talked about teaming up and Sebastiaan stated: "If this is going to work out, you should join the company." After 6 months the request became official and after another 6 months I officially joined the company on February 1st, 2015.

Ad van der Lee is Master Distiller at the Herman Jansen Distillery. With over thirty years of experience, Ad is an authority on spirits, and he is our partner on our entire spirit line. But there were some challenges as he recalls:
“The start of the project with Bobby’s Gin was so unconventional, that in the beginning I remember saying: ‘This project is too complex, this recipe is impossible to work with.’
After many conversations and tastings, we continued the project, which took over two years. We tinkered with the recipe and tested, tested, and tested some more. The result is impressive, and, for all of us, it was well worth the two years of development time. I am very proud of it.”
