DISTILLING CAPITAL
In 2012, the grandsons explored their family tradition. Armed with Bobby’s Pinang Raci recipe for infusing jenever with a mix of spices, they began their search for the perfect distilling partner to craft their gin. It didn’t take long before they found a family-owned distillery located in Schiedam, the Netherlands, the birthplace of gin’s ancestor jenever and the cradle of Dutch distilling.
DISTILLING CAPITAL
SCHIEDAM DISTILLERY
Behind the stone walls and cobbled streets of this picturesque town, the distillery has been producing spirits for centuries. The family of this distillery has dedicated their lives to creating quality spirits with the utmost dedication and integrity.
Grandson Sebastiaan describes the start of the process: “It took two challenging years of tasting and refining before we arrived at the perfect, modern expression of grandfather Bobby’s recipe. We certainly pushed the Master Distiller to go beyond his limits, resulting in an amazing outcome. We have created something iconic, worthy of our family’s traditions. We take great pride in Bobby’s Gin — and all the products we have created in the spirit range ever since.”
BEHIND THE BOTTLE
MEET GRANDSON SEBASTIAAN
Born: June 30th, 1984, Rotterdam.
Life:
All that matters most: my family, my friends, Bobby’s, and music.
Career:
Before I started with Bobby’s Gin, I worked for Duvel. I was given the opportunity to build Vedett in the Netherlands, which I loved. I learned so much, and it eventually led me to the entire Bobby’s journey.
School:
I studied Communications & Leisure Management (and a few other subjects), but I never graduated. The school of life seemed a better fit.
David:
David is my older brother, and since we were little, we have always looked after each other. It’s always been ‘me and my shadow’. If you get me, you get him, and vice versa :). Our bond grew stronger when our parents separated a long time ago. We did, and still do, everything together—from living in Rotterdam to having our own rock 'n' roll band and DJing every once in a while.
When I launched Bobby’s Gin on February 12th, 2014, David said to me, "If you need me in the business, I’ll be there." I replied, "What’s mine is yours." After six months, I called my brother and asked if he was up for a new joint venture. :)
BEHIND THE BOTTLE
MEET GRANDSON DAVID
Born: November 24th, 1979. I’ve always lived in or near the best city in the world: Rotterdam. Born and raised, and never leaving.
Life:
When I’m not working, you can probably find me with my girlfriend, fishing rod, guitar, or tennis racket. I also enjoy playing music as a DJ with my brother Sebastiaan. Besides all this, I love hanging out with friends and family.
Career:
I’ve worked all kinds of jobs—from selling shoes and being a Microsoft reseller to working behind a bar. All of these experiences led me to the family path of Bobby’s. Telling our family story feels like the most natural ‘job’ so far and often doesn’t feel like a job at all.
School:
Being a dreamer, I never found what I was looking for in school. I was too stubborn for books and always sought my own answers. I tried some social studies and a bit of international business, all to fulfill society’s expectations. Nevertheless, the world outside was always calling, so following my heart was the best way to go.
Sebastiaan:
Sebastiaan is my younger brother, and we have always been a team, besides being brothers, of course. Our similarities and differences define our brotherhood. Our connection grew even stronger when our parents separated a long time ago. Since then, we’ve teamed up on many things: living together in Rotterdam, friendships, having our own rock ‘n roll band, and DJing every once in a while.
When he started Bobby’s and went live with it on February 12th, 2014, we had already discussed teaming up. Sebastiaan said, "If this is going to work out, you should join the company." After six months, the request became official, and I joined the company on February 1st, 2015.
