Bobby’s cocktail competition

Bartenders from all over Europe

Over 200 talented bartenders, coming from all over Europe, entered this year’s Bobby’s Cocktail Competition. Although we would have loved to have shared a cocktail with them face to face, we are happy and proud that they could join us digitally to represent Italy, Germany, Belgium and Spain and present their amazing cocktails with our gin or genever.

Foodhallen Rotterdam

For this live digital edition we had the jury and last year’s Global Winner Erik Beeftink hosting the Semi-Finals in The Foodhallen in Rotterdam on one side and the contestants at home or in their (closed) bar on the other. As homemade ingredients were flown in from all over Europe, Erik had his work cut out for him to recreate all the contestants’ cocktails. The cocktail creations were shaken on both ends simultaneaously and juried by a Dutch jury consisting of the grandsons and Daryl Lieuw-On of the Rumah and a jury from the contestant’s country. A unique experience that resulted in some pretty amazing winners (and cocktails!).

GERMANY’S WINNING COCKTAIL: SMIZE, GIRL!

This Bobby’s drink is an easy Sour-Twist but with a complex aroma. It’s practicable for any homebar with simple ingredients.

RECIPE

Pour 50ml of Bobby’s Dry Gin, 30ml lemon juice, 20ml tonka-bean syrup and eggwhite in a shaker. Shake it, strain in a tumbler glass filled with ice cubes and use a barspoon to add the deep-dark purple Primitivo float on top of the cocktail.

TIM DE VRIENDT | THE COBBLER | GHENT

BELGIUM’S WINNING COCKTAIL: IKATAKI

Tim noticed that a lot of people like to learn how to eat and drink better during these lockdowns and combined these two loves in this amazing serve.

RECIPE

Pour 50ml of Bobby’s Dry Gin, 50ml adjusted dipping sauce (300g yogurt, 150g cashew milk, 150g white sugar, 150g fresh lime juice, 80g mango-chutney, 1 bundle of cilantro) and 2 dashes of absinthe into a shaker with ice. Double strain into a chilled coupe glass and garnish with a piece of freshly baked pita bread.

Scoop up the leftover dip with some delicious bread.

SPAIN’S WINNING COCKTAIL: QUIJOTESCO

The inspiration for his tasty cocktail comes from Schiedam’s giant windmills and Don Quijote’s epic battle against them.
